Energy Efficiency, M&V and energy savings certificates (VEEC, ESCs and ACCUs)

Nicklas Lindewald, M&V Professional, Carbon Blue

Measurement & Verification (M&V) validates the reliability and effectiveness of an energy savings investment. M&V can be used to hold providers accountable to their energy efficiency claims. M&V can now also generate energy savings certificates that incentivises your energy efficiency investment in addition to the direct bill savings generated.

  • M&V what is it? The perfect project.
  • Which M&V certificate schemes are available and how do they differ? ESCs, VEECs and ACCUs.
  • Whole of site versus submetered M&V - pros and cons.
  • The biggest risks making savings non compliant: Independent factors, effective range and interactive effects.
  • Forward creation: Accuracy factor, precision and persistence model.

Opportunities for custom upgrades in Victorian Energy Upgrades

Andrea Espinosa, Policy Officer, DELWP

Victorian Energy Upgrades, formerly known as the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target (VEET), is a white certificate scheme that obligates energy retailers in Victoria to acquire a certain number of energy efficiency certificates each year, thereby creating a market for upgrades. The incentive for a specific upgrade is calculated based on the greenhouse gas abatement it achieves.

We will be discussing new opportunities for business to generate incentives through the program. The presentation will describe how new methods work and how to participate – from pre-planning, implementing the upgrade and calculating the impact and incentives. This will be relevant to businesses considering undertaking energy efficiency upgrades, as well as industry professionals, who can use these incentives to promote the benefits of energy efficiency and pass discounts onto customers or increase project profitability.
