Hybrid solution accelerates transition to a renewables-led energy mix

Gregory Politakis, Senior Sales Manager,  Vestas

Global energy markets are rapidly turning away from fossil fuels towards wind and other competitively priced renewable sources. As renewables’ role in power generation expands, technology becomes an important enabler.  Renewable energy hybrid solutions have significant potential to provide the efficiency and flexibility needed to accelerate the global transition to a renewables-led energy mix.

Hybrids: Challenging the paradigm of intermittent generation

Andrew Dickson, Business Development Manager, CWP Renewables

Wind and solar hybrids are challenging the paradigm of intermittent generation. Sapphire Renewable Energy Hub will involve a 270 MW wind farm, a 230 MW solar farm and a large scale battery to optimise generation and control export to meet demand. The Grassroots Renewable Energy Platform allows wind, solar and storage to be combined at the portfolio level, providing low-cost guaranteed firm volume to market. Hybrid generation is also being applied at a scale not previously seen at the 9 GW Asian Renewable Energy Hub in Western Australia. The principles of these projects remain the same: wind, solar and storage, combined using the right technology and know-how can produce 24/7 dispatchable renewable power at very competitive prices.
