Chair: Andrew McNamara, General Manager, Strategic and International Policy, Energy Supply Association of Australia  

Andrew McNamaraAndrew McNamara commenced at the Energy Supply Association of Australia in December 2009 and is responsible for developing strategic views informed by international policy settings and energy market, climate change and fuel security policy. He also oversees the production of esaa’s flagship annual publication Electricity Gas Australia, as well as other weekly and monthly statistical member publications.

Prior to joining esaa, Andrew served three terms as a Queensland MP between 2001 and 2009, including two years as Minister for Sustainability, Climate Change and Innovation. Previously, Andrew was also partner of a law firm and served as a non-executive director of Ergon Energy.

Andrew holds a BA majoring in economics and an LLB, and is completing a Masters of Business.

Martin Smith, Sales Manager, Clarke Energy
Martin SmithMartin Smith is the Sales Manager for Clarke Energy and has led the project development team there for three years. During this period Martin has worked with a number of key stakeholders to develop and execute over 55 megawatts of decentralised and cogeneration projects in Australia and New Zealand.

 

Prior to joining Clarke Energy, Martin spent five years in a technical role providing front end and after sales services for off grid and embedded generation systems which included residential scale cogeneration systems and diesel based power for remote communities. Martin has completed tertiary studies in industrial electronics and electrical engineering and represents Clarke Energy in their membership activities within the Clean Energy Council, the Energy Efficiency Council and the Green Building council of Australia.


Unique, commercial energy delivery solutions utilising gas
Energy Developments developed owns and operates over 600MW of niche, clean generation in Australia, US, UK and Europe.

Energy Developments delivers unique, innovative gas delivery and electricity supply solutions including a domestic LNG plant in WA supplying remote towns with electricity in the Kimberley region; a CNG delivery project in central Australia delivering fuel to Power & Water Corporation’s Yulara power station; conversion of underground mines gas (waste coal mine gas) to electricity and supply into the NEM; collection of landfill gas from councils in Queensland, NSW, Victoria, ACT and South Australia and conversion to electricity.

The discussion will intimate the drivers for each of these forms of energy production, the environmental and economic benefits of Energy Developments’ portfolio.

Jeff Thong, Business Manager Remote Power Australia, Energy Developments
Jeff ThongJeff Thong is an Electrical Engineer and is completing an executive MBA. He was born in Scotland of Chinese and Australian parentage, raised and educated in Brisbane. After graduating from the University of Queensland, he spent 12 years working resident in south-east Asia (mainly in Singapore and Brunei).

Jeff returned to Brisbane in 2003 to transition his technical and business acumen, developed off the back of Asia’s 24-7 work ethic and cultural diversity, to the Australian energy context.

His experience includes energy consulting, demand side management, energy efficiency, energy performance contracting, energy auditing, electricity distribution and commercial energy delivery. Jeff develops business for Energy Developments Limited, an ASX-listed energy company.
