Carbon doubts cut $10b from investment
POWER companies have slashed $10 billion from their spending plans because of growing uncertainty over carbon policy, an industry survey reveals. According to the Energy Supply Association of Australia, utilities expect their capital expenditure on new power stations in the next five years will be $8.2 billion, down from $18 billion last year. The industry, which has complained that repeated delays to emissions trading have stalled investment, blamed the fall on carbon policy uncertainty and tighter access to credit.

Gillard wants ‘record investment’ in RE
Australia’s new Prime Minister Julia Gillard has promised to spend a “record” amount of money to develop the country’s solar and renewable energy sector.
In her address to the nation on Saturday, Gillard outlined major policies for the country, including investments in clean energy.
“Moving forward means making record investments in solar power and other renewable energies to help us combat climate change and protect our quality of life,” Gillard says.
Gillard has at her disposal a $652m fund, announced in the May budget, that is to be spend on renewable energy and energy efficiency measures.

No carbon price under coalition: Abbott
9/07/2010 - he coalition has upped the ante in its opposition to imposing a carbon price on Australians.
Opposition Leader Tony Abbott strengthened his resolve on the issue on Sunday.
"There will be no carbon price on consumers under a coalition government, none whatsoever," Mr Abbott told reporters in Sydney.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard has yet to announce her climate change policy but Mr Abbott is certain it will include a price on carbon.
