Self-dusting solar panels
Self-cleaning technology developed for lunar and Mars missions could be used to keep terrestrial solar panels dust free. Dust deposits can reduce the efficiency of electricity generating solar panels by as much as 80%. The self cleaning technology can repel dust when sensors detect concentrations on the panel's surface have reached a critical level. Click here for full story

London fire stations lower carbon emissions
Figures released today show that carbon emissions have plummeted by as much as 44 per cent and energy bills will be cut by around £50,000 a year at ten fire stations involved in the Mayor of London’s RE:FIT programme. The completed stations are now saving 242 tonnes of CO2 per year - enough to fill the Sydney Opera House five times over. Click here for full story
Give people access to cheap solar power
The prize-winning inventor says his low-cost solar cell has the potential to form a major part of an energy revolution Michael Grätzel is a man with a mission. As the inventor of a low-cost solar cell, he wants to help the world avoid an energy crisis by harnessing the power of the Sun. His translucent Grätzel cells use a combination of titanium dioxide and organic dyes to convert sunlight into electricity, providing a cheaper and more environmentally friendly source of energy than silicon solar cells. Micro Energy Harvesters - Alternative source of RE
The increasing number of autonomous miniature electronic devices brings with it the problem of an adequate, reliable power supply. Micropower environmental energy harvesting generators offer an alternative source of renewable energy. These power supplies can help to support environmental, wearable or surgically implantable microsystems. They can assist or even replace batteries in some applications.

It's not easy being green
The GreenPower scheme was initiated by the NSW Government in 1997, when concern about climate change was only just starting to permeate the public and political consciousness. The scheme became national in 2000 and by then there were 15 products from 14 electricity companies and almost 57,000 customers. Most of the "green" electrons were from "biomass" sources, such as landfills with rotting organic matter, which produce methane that can be captured and used to generate electricity. Wind and solar power were miniscule but interestingly, solar was installed on the rooftops of the Sydney Olympic Village at Newington. Click here for full story
Eco suburb plan unveiled for city
A VISION for a suburb of the future with no cars, an 80 per cent reduction in carbon emissions and the ability to grow its own food has been unveiled by a State Government-funded thinktank. And it could happen on a site just two kilometres from the centre of Melbourne. Click here for full story
Australia’s $27.7m green energy injection
The Australian Government has promised to boost jobs and the green industry by injecting $27.7 million into eco-projects. A total of 32 new green projects will receive funding under the Climate Ready program, spanning everything from wind turbine production for renewable energy and tree planting projects for carbon pollution reduction, to carbon neutral biofuel processors and waste management and processing technology.
