Solid Energy Starts N.Z. Pellet Exports
March 5 (Bloomberg) -- Solid Energy New Zealand Ltd., the nation’s biggest coal producer, will load its first wood-pellet shipment under a three-year contract to European power generators next week.
The 6,500 metric ton cargo loading at Napier will be the smallest under the NZ$15 million ($10 million) contract, Andy Matheson, Solid Energy’s renewable energy manager, said in a telephone interview. Twice-yearly shipments will typically be between 10,000 and 20,000 tons and there is scope to increase the contract as demand warrants, he said

Power stations dismiss renewable energy
TWO new fossil fuel power plants that will increase the state's greenhouse gas emissions by between 5 and 15 per cent will move a step closer to construction this week after developers claimed renewable energy cannot feed a growing hunger for electricity. Nanotube Thermocells Hold Promise
The research was a joint collaboration between Baratunde Cola, assistant professor in the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech, and an international team of researchers from the U.S., Australia, China, India and the Philippines.
Cola, director of Georgia Tech’s NanoEngineered Systems and Transport Research Group (NEST), described the study as a breakthrough in efficiently harvesting electrical energy from various sources of exhaust or wasted heat.

AGL to buld $120m Hallett 5 wind farm
AGL Energy Limited has entered into agreements for the construction of the 52.5MW Hallett 5 wind farm at the Bluff Range in the mid-north of South Australia.
Construction will begin in July with completion anticipated in December 2011. It will create more than 120 jobs for the region during the construction phase.
Hallett 5 will consist of 25 s88 V3 turbines (2.1MW each) to be purchased from Suzlon Energy Australia Pty Ltd (Suzlon) at a total development cost of approximately $120 million
